University Institute of Technology, Mulamkadakam, Kollam
Being one of the first 16 UIT’s governed and run by University of Kerala, UIT Mulamkadakam, Kollam came into existence on 27th December 1996 within the (Aaswasakendra) of Mulamkadakam West High School campus. This initiative was spearheaded by the founding member team, which included the then syndicate member Shri. Sudhir Jacob, former Chairman Shri. Thankappan, and Honourable Kollam M.L.A. Shri Babu Divakaran. Prof. A.G.S. Panikker served as the first principal/Coordinator of UITKollam.
The institute started functioning in this campus with two courses BBA and B.Sc Computer Science, with the support and service of few office staffs Mr. Slomo Ninan, assistant Smt. Sudha A, peon Kochuthressia and faculties like Shri Alex Varghese, Shri. Deepu A.S., Shri. Praveen P.P. and Shri. Suresh Babu P.T. In the beginning, admissions were managed at UIT Adoor for classes scheduled at UIT-Kollam. In the year 1997, Sri M Vargheese served the institution for a brief period as the second principal.
However, in January 1998, Retired Prof. Ibrahimkutty assumed the role of the third Principal/Coordinator, leading to the relocation of the institute to its current premises. Consequently, admissions were conducted directly at UIT Kollam for the first time. Additionally, in 2001, the B.Com course was introduced as part of the academic stream. In 2005, first PG program, M.Sc Computer Science, was introduced, and in 2017, M.Com Finance course was added to its academic curriculum.
Currently, the institution operates efficiently with five courses affiliated with the University of Kerala, catering to approximately 600 students from various districts of Kerala. The University offers Choice Based Credit and Semester System for all its UG and PG programmes where the semester typically falls during the months of August -January and February-July.
